There are many opportunities for volunteer involvement – including young adults, youth, and children – with Greater Birmingham Ministries and the low-income people we serve, through shared ministry and vision for our city and all the people who live here:
- Carry out food drives year-round
- Volunteers can help deliver and stack the food in our pantry
- Donate food and toiletries to our pantry
- GBM needs volunteers (usually with trucks!) to assist with the pick-up of food from the food bank. Pick-up times are the 1st Wednesday of every month (twice in July & December), and last about an hour and a half.
Our clothes closet is open every Tuesday and Thursday 9am-11am to provide clothing to low-income individuals and families.
- Donate clothing
- Volunteer to organize and distribute clothing
School’s Out Food Drives
Hunger for children is often at its worse when school is out, and they don’t have access to school breakfast and lunch. You can partner with GBM to collect child-friendly food for school-age children who are home alone during spring break, summer and other holidays, while school is out and their parents are at work.
We need your help in ongoing efforts to collect school uniforms for low-income children and teens. This is a great unmet need in our community. School uniforms include belts and socks!
Community Day at GBM before school starts make School Uniforms and School Supplies available to low-income children. Community Days during the year offer education and cultural opportunities. They are always festive and beneficial times for our families. Volunteers can provide food and fun for the kids and build community with adults.
GBM always needs volunteers during the weeks before Christmas to shop, assemble packages for each family, and give them out to the families. We always need donations of toys, clothing, turkeys, bicycles, and especially gifts for 10-12 year old boys! You can donate toys at any time.
