“I’m Just So Thankful”: GBM Quiets Growling Stomachs

Calvin Finley was ready to talk the minute he walked into the room. “We gotta make it quick. I’m #48 and I don’t want to miss out,” he said, smiling anxiously.

Calvin came to GBM for food assistance, and his anxiety reflects his need.

“I recently became unemployed and they haven’t started my food stamps yet. I’m hoping to have the food stamps in a month, but the food pantry will help me get by until then,” Calvin said. “I’m so thankful for the food pantry.”

Not only does GBM  help Calvin with food, the staff also keeps his spirit uplifted in these trying times. “I don’t know her name, but the older lady always encourages us to keep our heads up and keep moving forward. She says we’re always in her prayers,” he said.

Calvin is working hard to find another job and hopes to be employed in the next month or so. “I don’t know what I’d do without this temporary help,” he said, pressing his hands together. “I’m just so thankful.”
