When Grace Gwin retired, she knew she wanted to spend her time volunteering. There are many organizations in Birmingham that Grace could have chosen, but she chose GBM because she believes in the work GBM does in the community.
“I picked this [GBM] because it appealed to me. I like how they advocate for people. The people who work here seem like a caring group who love doing things for others,” Grace said. “I immediately felt like I’d be proud to be a part of something like this.”
Grace is a new volunteer who plans to help with the clothes closet on Thursdays. She has already been inspired by her short time as a GBM volunteer and looks forward to spending more time here.
“It’s one thing to write a check, but it’s different when you’re here and you can see the cause and result of what they’re doing,” Grace explained.
Grace learned about GBM through her church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and their resources for community outreach. Volunteers are most needed during the Christmas season, the fall months (voter registration season) and other busy times during the year.
